No prior Pilates teaching experience is required for the Matwork Instructor Course. A genuine interest in movement and health is all you need. Many students join with no prior formal training and go on to become outstanding instructors.
Yes — attendance at every session is mandatory. The 2026 Matwork Course runs 13 modules live on Zoom across four weekends (September 2026), followed by three in-studio contact days in Kenilworth, Cape Town (October 2026). All online sessions are live and interactive, not pre-recorded.
Once the taught modules are complete you do a practical exam to qualify you to enter the supervised teaching phase — approximately 50 hours assisting classes under the guidance of experienced Body Control Pilates supervising teachers across Southern Africa. You also complete an anatomy written examination, essay questions, a lesson plan, and a final assessment class.
Graduates receive a Certificate in Body Control Pilates Matwork and accreditation against the new international industry standard for Pilates, set by the Society for the Pilates Method. We also offer Level 3 Pilates certification if requested. You are eligible for membership of the Body Control Pilates Association — Europe's largest professional Pilates organisation with over 1,400 teachers in 50+ countries.

Instalment plan: R3,000 registration fee (non-refundable, payable immediately) + 6 monthly payments of R3,800 = R25,800 total. A minimum of R11,400 must be paid at least 10 days before the course start date, in addition to the registration fee.

Yes. The R3,000 registration fee serves as your deposit and secures your place on the course. You can pay online via PayFast using a credit card. Please note the registration fee is non-refundable.
No — the registration fee of R3,000 is non-refundable in all circumstances. If you cancel your place more than 6 weeks before the course start date having paid the full upfront amount, a 50% cancellation fee applies. Fees are also non-refundable in the event of early course withdrawal. Fees paid on the installment option are non-refundable in all circumstances.
Course fees cover all elements: comprehensive course notes, all module tuition, supervised teaching support, anatomy examination, one practical assessment class, one sign-off class at our Kenilworth centre, and all awarding body fees. No hidden extras.
Yes. Many qualified teachers join the Body Control Pilates Matwork Course to deepen their knowledge, gain international accreditation, or as a pathway to our further education courses (Reformer, Intermediate Matwork, etc.). Contact us to discuss a bridging pathway (including a discount).
Once certified you can progress to Intermediate Matwork (2 days), Advanced Matwork (2 days), Reformer 1 (6 modules over 4 days — prerequisite for all studio equipment courses), and then the full further education catalogue including Studio Equipment, Special Populations, Medical Conditions, Sport & Performance, and Level 4 qualifications.
In-studio sessions take place at the Body Control Pilates South Africa head office in Kenilworth, Cape Town. Some matwork course cohorts also have a Johannesburg in-studio option — contact us to confirm availability.
